It shall be the duty of Chinese Language Tutors to undertake the following duties as directed by the Director of the English Language Centre or the designated representative.
The teaching load for Tutor at this level may involve teaching across different modules and may contain several different teaching components. They are expected to take an active role in team discussions and planning, give detailed feedback to students on assignments and mark to standard. There may sometimes be a requirement to teach in the evening.
Duties include but are not limited:

1. To teach on a range of Chinese language modules including academic modules in Chinese (reading, writing, speaking and listening), Chinese classes for staff, Chinese classes for visiting groups and Chinese classes for exchange students from the University of Liverpool.

2. To provide systematic and constructive feedback on students’ language performance and coursework;

3. To assist in the development of module curriculum, including materials;

4. To participate in centre meetings as required;

5. To provide pastoral support to students allocated under the University’s personal tutor scheme;

6. To participate in in-service teacher development sessions;

7. To carry out administrative tasks such as recording attendance, administering evaluation questionnaires, recording of materials and sources used in line with University policy and procedures;

8. To liaise with co-tutors and staff from other Centres and Departments to ensure effective development and delivery of modules being taught;

9. To administer examinations in line with university policy and procedures;

10. To perform such duties within the University as shall be assigned to them;

1. Have relevant teaching experience (as part of qualification or post-qualification);

2. Hold a MA in Applied Linguistics/Teaching Chinese, or an equivalent qualification;

3. Possess an excellent standard of spoken and written English;

4. Possess good IT skills.

In addition, teachers at this level would typically have experience in one or more of the following areas:

1. Relevant experience of working with foreign students at University level of study;

2. Some relevant experience and knowledge of modern teaching methods and strategies typically used to teach Chinese in the West (e.g. experience at a Confucius Institute);

3. Materials design.
