Assistant Professor of Chinese Language and Linguistics (Houston, TX)
The Department of Modern and Classical Languages at the University of Houston invites applications for a tenure track position, at the level of Assistant Professor, in our Chinese Studies program.  We are seeking a dynamic individual with native or near-native fluency in Mandarin and English. Ph.D. in Chinese Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, or areas related to Chinese Language Studies is required and must be in hand by May 2016. Native or near-native fluency in Chinese and English is required; intermediate proficiency in a second Asian language (Japanese, Vietnamese, or Korean) is desirable.

The successful candidate will be able to teach Mandarin Chinese language courses at all levels as well as graduate courses on theories of language acquisition, research based instruction, and/or Chinese linguistics. Demonstrated excellence in college-level language teaching and evidence of strong research potential are required. We welcome candidates interested in contributing to our interdisciplinary World Cultures and Literatures undergraduate and graduate programs or Digital Humanities.
